JPN W: Japan NT starts to prepare for Tokyo Olympics with 29 players

The Japan Women’s Volleyball National Team started to prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

 

After the completion of the national championship - V-League, whose season was significantly shortened, 29 candidates were selected by the head coach Kumi Nakada to practice at the National Training Center in Tokyo for the Summer Olympics that will be held in the Japanese capital. Out of these 29 players, five competed in the last Olympics in Rio, 10 took part in the 2018 FIVB World Championship, while seven are debutants.

The list of players that started preparations:

Ai Kurogo, Sarina Koga, Nana Iwasaka, Risa Shinnabe, Erika Araki, Haruka Miyashita, Yuki Ishii, Akane Yamagishi, Kanami Tashiro, Aika Akutagawa, Yurie Nabeya, Miya Sato, Mai Okumura, Mako Kobata, Katoe Inoue, Aya Watanabe, Miwako Osanai, Yuri Yoshino, Arisa Inoue, Nanami Seki, Mayu Ishikawa, Mai Irisawa, Mayu Oikawa, Rei Kudo, Tamami Matsui, Nichika Yamada, Kotona Hayashi, Rena Mizusugi, and Haruna Soga.

This was expected considering the worst season Zenit had this year. From the absolute domination at the national and international level, they became average team. If Alekno comes back, Mikhaylov goes back to the opposite spot, and they find one great outside hitter they might be able to form great team again. Reply
