Experienced Russian player responded on the statement of Ivan Zaytsev, who said that Zenit Kazan is “killing the Russian Championship”.
“I do not understand what he meant to say. In Italy, Trentino haven’t allowed anyone to get close to the championship title for many years. Were they “killing the championship” as well? In each country there are strong, medium and weak teams. What prevents any club to sign good players and to compete with Zenit Kazan? You have to look for sponsors. If you look at how much money is spent on Russian football or hockey, then it cannot be said that there is no money in our country,” said Volkov.
Still, there must be mentioned that Volkov was not right about Trentino, as this club have never won two championship titles in a row. Italian powerhouse has 4 championship titles in their cupboard (2007/08, 2010/11, 2012/13, 2014/15).
