Iran vs. Argentina
Perhaps this outcome might be called the first big upset at the World Cup 2015, but the truth is – Argentina totally outplayed Iran. Boys led by Julio Velasco demonstrated a high level of volleyball, but also a winning character. Because there are not a lot of teams who would get back into the match after losing the first set on this way…
Argentina was up ahead by 21:15, but Iran performed a miraculous comeback and won the set by 27:25! Still, experienced Julio Velasco did not let his team to lose faith. Carried by inspired Lucciano De Cecco and always-in-attacking-mode Facundo Conte, Argentina began their comeback.
In the second set they returned from 18:20 and won the set by 25:22; In the third set they had a full control and repeated the score – 25:22; While then it was time for Argentina to finish the job. But, they almost dropped a certain win…
Facu Conte and Co. were up by 23:18 in the fourth set and they needed two more points to seal the win. However, Iran made a 5:0 run and tied the score at 23:23! Another comeback? Not this time! Argentina used their second match ball to close the set by 26:24 and win the match by 3-1!
You want to know who scored the last point? Of course – Facundo Conte, and he did it by making an ace! He was also the top scorer of the game with 26 points.
