By participating in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League as well as the German Bundesliga and the national cup your club will have a tight schedule in the upcoming season. What are the goals you strive for?
“It’s obvious that we want to be “Deutscher Meister” again. It’s very rare you win three times in a row; it’s even rare to win once, never let twice. If we could do it once more that would be unbelievable. As regards the cup, we want to get to the finals. You’ll continue to get Generali UNTERHACHING (BERLIN lost to their national rival three times in a row in early stages of cup competition) – and one of these times you have to beat them. In our international campaign, we have a more difficult draw this year. But I think we can get out of our group successfully.”
What are the reasons for you being that confident about your 2014 international campaign?
“We’ve upgraded in a lot of positions, but still have the same team like we’ve had in the last two years. We work so well together and we should benefit from the experience we’ve gained in Champions League last year. The one downfall we have is that we play the first three matches against Italy’s Diatec TRENTINO, Turkey’s Arkas IZMIR and Energy Investments LUGANO of Switzerland outside of our home court and that’s difficult, especially in such an elite competition. Thus, it’s important to get a win under our belt early. “
Last year your home crowd was fantastic. What does it feel like to play in front of such an audience?
“It’s just fun! That’s one reason why I love playing here, because the fans are so awesome. The increase in fans from my first year here is just amazing, how many more familiar faces you see in the crowd coming every single match now. And that’s why we play better. How loud they are is just unbelievable! And I could imagine it scares other teams! We love it! The more fans we get the better we play!”
