The players of Germany’s DRESDNER SC recently made a pact with the devil. It sounds scary but the devil is going to show up for every single home match played at Margon Arena by Germany’s vice-champions. Actually that devil is the club’s mascot, Burny, so there is nothing that people shall worry about.

The devil of DRESDNER SC does not look scary at all. He is red – the corporate colour of the team from Saxony – and wears a white shirt. His name is Burny and shall be the seventh player anytime DRESDNER SC will take it to the court this season.

This idea was brought up by one of our fans and luckily we could turn his thoughts into reality quite quickly. Burny will replace our former mascot Dschingu” says the chairman of DRESDNER SC Jörg Dittrich.

About 2,500 tickets were sold for the season’s opener at Margon Arena against Germany’s champions and DRESDNER SC arch-rivals, SCHWERINER SC. “We have a very young team and we need the support of our fans, especially the players that were added to the roster for this season and that will debut on Wednesday” says head coach Alexander Waibl.

Our preparations for the start of the season went by very fast especially as many new players have joined the team” recalls setter Mareen Apitz. “Everything is working fine so far and I am sure we are among those who can have a shot at the tile in the Bundesliga” she adds.

Coach Waibl does not expect too much from the season’s opener with SCHWERINER SC.

“It is going to be like any other game we played to prepare for the start of the season. The outcome don’t have an impact once we will draw the line at the end of this year’s campaign. We still do not know if one of our latest additions, Rebecca Perry, will be able to play with SCHWERINER SC”.

Similarly to DRESDNER SC, SCHWERINER SC also has undergone many changes this summer and they still also need some time to find the right chemistry. Next to this, former head coach Teun Buijs left the club to move to Poland – where he is mentoring Atom Trefl SOPOT – and this year SCHWERINER SC will be playing under the guidance of Felix Koslowski, the young (he is only 29) assistant of Giovanni Guidetti with whom he won silver at this year’s EuroVolley with Germany national team.
