In the last round of the Final 6 (the second stage of the regular season), JT Thunders defeated JTEKT Stings in four sets, partially 30-28, 28-26, 18-25, 36-34, to seize the last vacant spot for the playoffs, the spot No.3, with a 4-1 record and 13 points. The Australian Thomas Edgar came close to the digit in the number of scored points which he set two and a half years ago and which was the world record when it comes to the FIVB matches only. Today, he poured in 48 points (3 aces, 2 kill blocks)! The Bulgarian Matey Kaziyski also impressed as he notched 38 points, including 6 aces and 6 kill blocks!
The win of the Thunders would be in vain if Toray Arrows (4-1; 12 points) collected a maximum three points from their encounter against Suntory Sunbirds. But, since the last-placed side managed to rip one point off the defending champs (3-2), the Thunders will go to the best-of-two playoff semifinals and face No.2 Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza (3-2; 14 points).
The top-seed Panasonic Panthers earned an automatic berth to the finals.
