In the decisive game for the national title in the 2021/22 Belgian Volley League Women, VDK Gent Dames Volley, which didn’t lose a single game in the regular season (16-0) but lost two in the playoffs, put the icing on the cake to the successful season with the 3-1 victory over Jaraco LVL Genk in Game 2 of playoff finals. After four exciting sets of Game 3, the Gent players and entourage were allowed to uncork the champagne and captain Laure Flament was allowed to raise the champion’s trophy in front of her teammates.

Julie Smeets, who was the top scorer of the match, together with Marlies Janssens, dragged the team from the Flanders region to a win today, as well throughout the season. The last time (and the only time before this season) Gent claimed the national title was in 2013. After that, the 8-year domination of Asterix Avo began and has just ended.
