Dominican Republic and Cuba to FIVB World Cup

Cuba defeated Dominican Republic 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-23) on the final day of the NORCECA Women’s Final Four Cup as both teams secured the available berths for the World Cup in Japan, the first Olympic qualifying event.

With two triumphs in the tournament and a total 10 points, the Dominicans  qualified for the event in Japan after winning the first set. From then on, the Cubans increased their attacks aware of only winning the three following sets they could clinch the remaining ticket for a better point-ratio quotient than Puerto Rico, 3-0 winners of the first match over Canada.  

Melissa Vargas was the top-scorer (20), followed by Alena Rojas Orta and Sulian Matienzo, 13 apiece. For the visiting team, Marianne Fersola was the only one with a double-digit tally (10).

Standings: Dominican Republic 10, Cuba 9, Portorico 9, Canada 2.
