The USA struggled in the first set with Autralians, being forced to chance the result for the most part of it, but when it found a solution for opponents’ firm defense, the match was a one-way street that led to the first win of Americans at the 2015 FIVB World Cup – 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-15)!

Just like Venezuela against Russia, Australia also failed to change the course of the game against favorites, United States, in Set 1. Edgar pulled ahead „Aussies“ to 11-8. The solid advantage was spiced with two successful challenges by Australian head coach Santilli at the very start of the game.

That would probably kill the moral of the most teams, but not American. Anderson showed his MVP potential, forcing Santilli to call time-out at 13-12 for the USA. It was in vain. After a point by point play, the US team gained the first set ball and turned it into 25-23 after Anderson’s ace.

USA established dominance from the start to the end of Set 2. It pressured Australia with strong serves, disabling opponent to organize proper attacks. Sander stood out in this segment, sending projectiles from the service line, while Anderson kept playing on a high level (25-12).

The Anderson – Russell duo gave Americans 10-6 lead in Set 3 despite Edgar’s efforts to maintain Australia in the game. It was a part of 6-1 run from the USA (14-7).

Lee than joined Anderson in the attack and point by point, the Americans were marching towards claiming their first triumph at the World Cup (25-15).

Matt Anderson was, by far, the best player on the court. He scored 17 points, followed by Aaron Russell (14). In Australia, Thomas Edgar collected 13 as the only player with double digits in his team.
