The head coach of Zenit-Kazan and former Russian men’s national team coach Vladimir Alekno, led the team to victory in the 2011 World Cup, World League 2012 and Olympic Games in London. In an interview with Business Online pointed out that the Russian women’s national team fans even after a victorious European championship should not forget about the leaders of the team in past years.

I am very happy for my colleague Yury Marichev. It is evident that he has done a tremendous amount of work. For him, this victory was very important. I’m glad for the young girls and for the atmosphere that prevailed at the site during the games. It’s great that Russia in recent years, is a leader in the world of volleyball.” said Alekno.

But there is one point that I want to tell apart. I have already heard the opinion that with the leave of Gamova, the team was better. You can’t so quickly disowned the former leaders of the team. Those Ekaterina Gamova and Lyubov Sokolova did for the team is much more than many of the current players. Let’s not forget that the team was kept for many years by these players. They gave their strength and health for the sake of the country, and to forget them it would be disrespectful.
