Penn State defeated first seeded Stanford 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21), and it will have a chance to defend the title won last year. Megan Courtney made 26 points for the reigning champions, while Ali Frantti added 19. Penn State won five NCAA titles in the last seven years!

The challenger in the big final will be BYU which made quite a surprise by beating Texax 3-1 (25-20, 25-16, 17-25, 26-24). In the 34-year history of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships, BYU is the first unseeded team to reach the finals. It is also the first time that this school has ever reached the championship match!

There’s a couple kids on this team that just don’t want this thing to end,” said coach Shawn Olmstead. “They did an unbelievable job.”

In the winning side Jennifer Hamson made 25 points, while Alexa Gray scored 20.

The big final is scheduled for December 20.
