Serbia, USA and Algeria made special visit (PHOTO, VIDEO)

Star players and coaches from the teams participating in Pool F of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix made a special visit to a home for children with special needs in Belgrade called “Sremčica”.

The visit, organised by the Volleyball Federation of Serbia and its general sponsor “Vip mobile” company, saw squad members from Serbia, USA (including coach Karch Kiraly, an Olympic champion in both volleyball and beach volleyball) and Algeria spend more than two hours with the kids, dancing, listening to music, playing volleyball and exchanging gifts. People from different continents gathered to bring much needed joy to the children, making an unforgettable event for all involved.

Beside the teams, there were many others who supported the event with their presence including the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2013 Pool F supervisor and president of the FIVB Technical Commission Mr Jivko Jetchev, Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia Mr Slobodan Milošević, Referee Delegate and member of the FIVB Refereeing Commission Mr Francesco D’Allo and the official referees for the Pool F matches in Belgrade – Mr Heung Fai Le from Hong Kong, Mr Janpen Jirakukul from Thailand, Mr Mustafa Jrad from Lebanon, Mr Anderrazek Hariz of Tunisia, and Mr Boris Kolarević from Serbia.

The guests were greeted by the Director of “Sremčica” Mrs Milka Milovanović-Minić.


“Many thanks to the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, this means a lot to us,” Mrs Milovanović-Minić said. “The support from the athletes is of immense significance for us and for our efforts to promote the inclusion of these children into society. I hope we will continue our cooperation. We organize many events where we, among other things, promote sport and this mutual benefits are very important.”

“This is the first time I see some professional teams participate in this kind of social event and I feel how exciting this is for both sides, for the kids living here, and for the players and officials who visit them,” Mr Jetchev said. “This is an exceptional feeling. To see the conditions and the environment of this kind of social institution is incredible. I want to congratulate the Volleyball Federation of Serbia.”

Mr Milošević closed proceedings by adding:

 “This is fantastic. I wish all the people could see the happiness on the children’s faces. It is incredible that we have some of the world’s greatest volleyball players playing with them. Serbia, USA and Algeria players together having fun and bringing joy to the kids, this is great.
