USA were better than Poland in almost every segment of their quarterfinal clash at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Thus, as much as it seems surprising, a 3-0 win by the Americans was a realistic situation.

„Winning 3-0 against Poland, as good as they are, is really remarkable. Our serves gave us a lot of scoring opportunities and we battled with energy. Now we are set to play for one medal in Rio,“ said John Speraw, the head coach of the United States.

„Americans really put a lot of pressure in the game. I look at the statistics and see that we had a 41 percent positive reception and we usually have about 60. Too bad that Piotr Nowakowski got injured, because his serve is extremely dangerous and we lacked the pressure in the service. We made too much errors but when you do not risk in this element you can not beat the USA. Service was our worst element… We can beat anyone, because we defend well, we block and attack well but the service is certainly not our greatest asset,“ stated Poland NT head coach Stéphane Antiga.
