It was the end of a beautiful story. Legendary Brazilian libero Serginho played the last game for his country on Sunday in Brasilia.

Serginho is leaving the national team as the Olympic champion. He played the final game for Brazil in front of 40,000 people, while he ended his national team career with an ACE SERVE!

“My national team story is over here. I can say that I will not miss trainings for sure (laughs). My body needs rest. It is very hard to play a high level volleyball for so many years and to win everything we had won along the way. The whole world wanted to knock us down, but we were always on podium. I like to say that I am no different than anyone else. I just believed in my dream and I fulfilled it. Now, I have to catch the flight to my home, to be with my children, take them to school, wash the car, make lunch… To live like a normal person,” said Serginho.

Brazilian libero will continue to play for his club Sesi SP, while his plan is to play for two more seasons and then to fully retire from volleyball.

I am still in shape. I will continue playing for my club for couple more years and then the story will end. Nobody wants to play forever. Brazilian people need new idols. They need someone new to look up to. They need someone new who will not give up on chasing their dreams. I was nine months old when I arrived in Sao Paulo. My parents worked on coffee plantations. Through volleyball I changed my life, I changed the life of my family and friends. People need to understand that there is no easy path if you want to be successfull.”
