According to Gian Luca Pasini from gazzetta.it, a huge volleyball precedent is about to be set in Italy.

The President of Italian Volleyball Federation, Carlo Magri, has proposed a rather strange solution in the case of Cuban Leonel Marshall. Magri said he will declare LPR Piacenza player Italian, but only for the competitions in Italy. In European competitions, Marshall would play as Cuban. Magri emphasized he will take full responsibility for this decision in front of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) who refused to change Marshall’s sports nationality.

According to Pasini, all Serie A clubs sign a document not to complain and not to retaliate on Piacenza on this subject.

Of course, if it becomes official, Magri’s decision would have a huge impact on similar cases in Italy and might cause a real volleyball earthquake in the future. It would allow clubs (not only in Italy) to choose which players to register as foreigners and which as domestic players and make a big confusion…
