It may change soon. A sensational decision was taken by the National Sports Commission in this country.
According to the Italian media “La Gazzetta dello Sport”, after more than twenty years, the Cuban players who decided to leave their homeland to play abroad, will be able to play again in the national team. Everyone who has not decided to change the sports citizenship will get a chance to return.
So, Osmany Juantorena, Wilfredo Leon and Yoandy Leal won’t be able for this national team, that’s certain.
This important decision was made by the National Sports Commission, headed by the president of the Volleyball Federation, Ariel Sainz. It makes it possible for all players who didn’t change their citizenship to return to the Cuban team, even though they decided to go abroad. The only term is the reapproval of the player to represent the country.
Simon Robertlandy was asked about this decision and he admitted that he was getting voices about the changes, but he is not sure is it true or not.
“I’ve heard about it, but I have not talked to anyone about it. I don’t know if they will call me, it depends on the situation. I want to know the conditions and intentions. It’s pointless to return just for the return. I will come back if it helps the young players grow and make Cuba successful again. If someone calls me, we’ll talk about it,” says Simon Robertlandy.
So, it’s going to be an interesting situation in the upcoming weeks.
