GP: USA defeated Russia in four sets

United States had a strong start at the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2013 with a 3-1 (25-20, 17-21, 25-21 and 25-12) win against Russia on the Arena Amil Gymnasium at Campinas, Brazil.

The opposite spiker Kelly Murphy topped the score for United States with 16 points. The Russian Nataliya Goncharova topped the score of all game with 19 points.

With a solid services and defenses, team USA took the first set 25-20.

In the second set, Russia tried to redeem themselves with an early 8-5 lead.  With opposite spiker Nataliya Goncharova shining with good spikes, the Europeans did 17-12. Russia took the opportunity with good blocks to set the pace and close the set 25-17.

The third set started even for both teams. The good defense and serves of United States got back in the middle of the third set, and the Americans took a three points lead (16-13). Team USA kept the lead and won the third set 25-21.

USA kept the momentum in the fourth set and open four points (8-4). Team USA kept strong during all the set closing the set 25-12 and the game 3-1.
