After the gold medal in Beijing with men, New Zealander decided to move on and lead women’s national team of USA. This was also very successful time. In 2011 USA won the Grand Prix and this year Americans went to the Olympic final really smoothly. However, they lost this last game and achieved “only” silver medal.
“I’m as sad about it as everyone because there was that goal (of winning the gold)” – said McCutcheon. “At the end of the day, I don’t think we did anything wrong. I just think we got outplayed in the final chapter.“
Now this part of his career ends. He leaves the American team on the first place of FIVB ranking and now the time has come for him to start something new. Soon McCutcheon will coach women’s volleyball team at Minnesota. He claims that American volleyball is in his blood, so he is not going to lead any other national team.
“I feel privileged to have been able to do the things that we’ve done and been able to work with the athletes I’ve gotten to work with“, he said. “It’s been unbelievable.” – he summed up his four-year job.
