The Polish media reported that a volleyball player, a teenage boy, was heavily beaten during a match in the youth league in the city of Wołomin, without disclosing his name.
A brutal attack on a player took place on the evening of November 14 during the match of the 2nd Mazowieck Junior League (II Mazowiecka Liga Juniorów) between Huragan Wołomin and RCS Czarni Radom II. The member of the latter team, the libero, was beaten in the toilet during the break between sets. The teenager was hospitalized with a head injury after this unimaginable incident in volleyball. There’s a suspicion of an eye injury and a concussion.
The beating took place around 10 p.m. in the hall of the Sports and Recreation Center in Wołomin (Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji w Wołominie). When the Radom libero asked a referee to go to the restroom in the break between the fourth and fifth sets, he was attacked and returned to the court covered in blood. The match, of course, was stopped, and an ambulance and police arrived at the scene. The boy was first transported to the hospital in Wołomin, and then to Warsaw. Later in his statements for the press, the Radom president, Dariusz Fryszkowski, told that his team’s players were insulted by fans of the opposing team during the match, which in itself is scandalous in the case of a match of youth teams, excluding the possibility that Radom delegation somehow provoked this.
