The walls of the Yantarny Hall in Kaliningrad shuddered from the loud roar of almost 7,000 fans when Irina Voronkova hammered the ball into the floor with a powerful spike, scoring Lokomotiv’s 15th point in the tie-break of the 5th final match of the 2021/22 Women’s Superliga Paribet (Суперлига Парибет Женщины) against Uralochka. And Lokomotiv are the Russian champions again, having beaten the Ekaterinburg side with a score of 3-2 (25-21, 25-20, 26-28, 20-25, 15-7) in the decisive duel at home.

The final series of the national league came out amazing and became a real gem of the completed volleyball season. Each of the 5 matches turned out to be intriguing and impossible to predict the winners before the final points. No one expected these two sides in the title face-off given that Lokomotiv took 3rd place in the regular season, while Uralochka, the most titled women’s club in Russia, finished 5th.

Tatyana Ezhak top-scored Lokomotiv today with 21 points. Yuliya Brovkina set up 6 of the team’s 19 blocks. Cuban Ailama Cesé put down 30 points for Uralochka.
