In an interview for „KazanFirst“, Alekno said it makes sense for Russian players to move to strong European championships and explained how he sees the Russian Championship in the coming years.

„I think it makes sense. It will not happen because in our league players are sitting on the bench – I’m not talking about Zenit, but entire league – and receive salary, which was paid in Italy for the players in the line-up. I think the financial situation equalizes today and departure of our players will not be anything wrong. On the contrary, it will be good, because there are many good coaches in Europe,“ former head coach of Russian Men’s National Team stated.

„For any Russian player to get into good hands in the Italian championship is a plus. For the average Russian player to get into the French championship, which works well with young people – a plus. It would particularly be well for the setters because some championships pay great attention to technique. And receivers. Another question is: if our players go to Europe, who will play here? Everything will depend on the country’s economy. For almost all the players competing in our volleyball championship it’s a professional activity. It’s the bread that feeds them and their families. If we will have the opportunity to keep the championship, everything will be fine. In our country we like volleyball, there are people who are not indifferent to it,“ Alekno added and emphasized that possible reduction of foreign players in the coming seasons is good if it will allow more domestic players to compete but not if it will only help some clubs who financially can not afford them.
