Egypt National Team made a memorable upset by beating Iran on Day 2 of the 2019 FIVB World Volleyball Cup in Japan!

Who could see this coming? Egypt have a perfect record after two rounds of the 2019 FIVB World Cup in Japan! After winning their opening game against Australia by a 3-1, the “Pharaons” repeated the same result against Iran, in Nagano. Despite losing the first set, Egypt managed to turn the course of the match into their favor and beat the reigning Asian champions, who came to the event in Japan with the strongest possible squad (except Seyed Mousavi), partially 22-25, 26-24, 25-18 and 26-24. This win puts the African side just behind Brazil and Poland in the charts as they all have a maximum of 6 points. Egypt’s Ahmed Abdelhay “Salah” stole the show from more famous Iranian rivals by scoring 21 points, including 4 aces. Porya Yali scored 22 points for Iran.

After losing the opening match to the hosts Japan, Italy improved a bit against the United States but had to lay down their weapons to the North American side in the match that was played in Fukuoka: 3-1 (19-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-19). The defending champions out-served the “Azzurri”, who came to the tournament with a modified roster compared to the one that took part in the FIVB International Olympic Qualifier and the 2019 CEV European Championship, by a 13-3. Matthew Anderson and Aaron Russell notched 16 points and 4 aces apiece for the USA. As for Italy, Gabriele Nelli scored 14 points while Simone Anzani made 5 kill blocks.

Brazil and Poland are at the top of the standings with 2-0 and 6 points but Brazil are at No.1 because they did not lose a single set. The “Seleção” swept Australia by a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-17). Bruno Rezende “Bruninho” left the court in the first set with blood on his face after colliding with libero Thales Hoss. The captain of Brazil got a cut below his right eye but returned in the second set with a bandage in place. Alan Souza, who is replacing absent Wallace Souza in the opposite hitter position, scored 13 points (4 aces) for Brazil. Lincoln Williams also made 13 points, but for Australia.

The world champions Poland surpassed the home team of Japan by a 3-1 in the match that was marked with the return of the Polish superstar Bartosz Kurek to the court after a back injury. He appeared in the line-up, making a national team debut this season (he was only in the protocol yesterday) and top-scored for his side with 15 points (4 kill blocks) although he did it through only 32% attack success rate (8/25). Yuji Nishida tallied 16 points for Japan.

Russia have risen from the dead against Canada in Nagano, from 0-2 to 3-2! Argentina downed Tunisia in four sets.

Volleyball proclaimed most dangerous sport regarding risk of contagion with COVID-19

I believe the study was about indoor 6's volleyball. Many folks here is the US play outdoor (and some of us play without clothes) 4 on 4 and don't high five each other. We also rotate about 5-6 balls that sit in the sun in between usage. Reply

FIVB releases new men’s and women’s world rankings

Serbia's ability to be in the metals in all big competitions, the last three years, is the result of the good handling of the rest exactly after the end of the European Championships. The first matches of Serbia in vnl the last years have the same philosophy. I insist. I would prefer o metal in big tournaments from metal in every year vnl. Thw players haven't enough time for rest. FIVB releases new men’s and women’s world rankings

has serbia ever had a 3rd team?:D
serbia began all vnl and former grand prix tournaments with a-teams. they have 3 recent g. prix bronzes. In 2018 vnl, again they began with boskovic, mikailovic, veljkovic, popovic, rasic etc. went to finals in china but lost against turkey and usa and went home.In 2019 vnl again they began with top guns boskovic, mikailovic, veljkovic etc. in 1st week. actually their rivals, the turks again, came with their 2nd team ie. without veterans but with youngsters ozbay, karakurt, gunes, baladin etc. and swept serbs by 3-0 and this match had to disappoint terzic too much and he continued vnl with bench players and lost almost all remaining games. videos are everywhere in youtube, just watch them.

for better rankings, you need to compete in all tournaments, but unfortunately only great countries like china, usa with great human resources, great capacities can afford it.

or despite winning 'big' tournaments, you must be contented with your 6th position, because only the points you won do matter. Reply
