Arnaud Gandais
We have contacted him in order to find out his plans for the future and to discuss about future challenges. It is interesting that Arnaud Gandais is coming from handball. He has an experince at this role, since he was also a general director in handball team Paris 92.
He is well known by his amazing work at this handball team as a general director, improving teams’ budget from 200,000 euros to more than 2,000,000 euros. That’s why he was invited to join the French volleyball team Paris Volley.
How do you plan to secure financial construction for the next season?
“We do not spend money we do not have. This season’s budget is balanced, but we are working to develop it considerably to achieve our goals and build a competitive team in the future.”
Knowing that volleyball is not such a profitable sport like football or basketball, is it possible to make some long-term plan of financing clubs in general?
“Of course, we can do it. We must build a balanced structure between public money and the development of financial resources from companies. Volleyball must develop by selling new services such as incentive operations for example. Volleyball must also understand that it has to extend its base to make progress. In Paris, our goal is to develop our fan base to attract new customers.”
Have you implemented all the mechanisms within the club to prevent a scenario with financial mismanagement and relegation?
“Stop comparing the past and the future! The new owners are business owners who have a strong responsibility for day-to-day management. They have spent a lot of money putting the club back into a stable situation. They are now aware that the club must be built as a business company, not like an association. My recruitment goes in this direction, to build step by step one of the biggest clubs in Europe! From the past, we keep the record, not the methods.”
Was it hard to regain the confidence of sponsors and players to come to Paris after what happened last season?
“Of course, because the confidence has been touched and destroyed, but we are working hard to prove to all our interlocutors that we are determined to find our best level with new methods.”
What is the result that would make you satisfied in the first season upon returning to the French top division?
“We are focused on developing the club’s foundations and have invested heavily for it. The pressure is not on players today. Of course, we want to reach the playoffs and trust our players to make the best performances. But be sure of one thing: you will hear about Paris Volley in the coming years,” says Arnaud Gandais.
