Yacine Louati
The French outside hitter moved from Padova to Monza for the season 2019/2020 hoping they will score a better overall result compared to the last season.
How would you describe your first season in the Serie A1?
“It was a really nice experience. I wanted to play in Italy for years but I was looking for the best opportunity to find the right balance between the goals of the club and my playtime. Padova was the perfect place to start. I settled down in the team really fast, the group was awesome. We worked hard to grow up as a team and we finally reached the 7th place. It was the objective of the season.”
In the last season, the competition in Serie A1 was very strong. What are your impressions?
“The level was incredibly high. It was announced in the pre-season and I was amazed. There was a small gap between four first teams who fought for the titles but what impressed me the most was the level of all the mid-table teams looking for the same objectives and fighting hard for it.”
For the season 2019/2020, you have a new challenge – Monza – your expectations?
“I expect a great season. I like the determination of the club, the way they have grown up in recent years and continue to push in this direction. I believe a lot in this team they made. Personally, I’ll keep growing as a player in this championship and give the maximum to reach the objectives we have.”
You will be playing with Bartosz Kurek. What does that mean for Monza, you and your teammates?
“We had the opportunity to have him 2 weeks before he left for the World Cup in Japan. He’s a great player and overall a good person. He’s working hard, pushing hard for the team and having also a positive impact. It means a lot to the team to have this security technically as well as mentally.”
What are the goals of Monza for the next season?
“It’s always hard to say in this kind of tough championships, we’ll need to start the season and see how it goes. Let’s say that if we don’t face bad luck, we could fight for the 5th place and then try our best in the playoffs.”
Have you got used to life in Italy?
“I feel really good here. The culture of volleyball is important, there’s a keen interest in the sport and we feel it as a player. The country in itself is awesome, I lived in Padova last season and now in Monza which are two nice cities. I also got charmed by the culture, the food, the food and also the food! Maybe I should not say this, I know there’s a kind of “gastronomy war” between Italy and France but I already chose my side.”
Is there something that you miss from France?
“Actually, both countries are similar. Here in Monza, I have access to all the concerts and culture I need, it’s perfect. I don’t miss anything, except the “Pasta alla Carbonara.””
The national team of France didn’t manage to win the medal. What Tillie’s team lacked to win the medal?
“I don’t know if they lacked something. I just think about the tiebreak versus Serbia. It’s so short, it’s like a flip coin. Serbia played very well and started on fire, after a few minutes France was too far and the game was already over. For this I felt really sad for the team because they made an awesome tournament, they attracted a big public interest in volleyball in France, which is hard to do. I guess they deserved better than 4th place but one of the four teams had to be out of the podium,” says Yacine Louati for WorldofVolley.
