Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle triumphed in the regular season the 2021/22 Polish Men’s Volleyball Championship.
Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle lost to Trefl Gdańsk 2-3 in the last match on the schedule (recovery of Round 20) of the 2021/22 PlusLiga regular season but took the top seed for the playoffs.
After Saturday’s match in Gdańsk, in which Jastrzębski Węgiel beat Trefl 3-2, the Polish champions jumped over ZAKSA and were leading the charts with +1. ZAKSA needed to score one point today to win the regular season and surpass Jastrzębski. In turn, Trefl played for a place (the last available) in the post-season, and to be promoted to it, they had to win in Kędzierzyn-Koźle. The victory would launch Michał Winiarski’s team to 7th place. So, it wasn’t a secret that the result of 3-2 for the Gdańsk side would be an ideal solution for both Trefl and ZAKSA. The PlusLiga vice-champions, the moment they took the necessary 2 sets (won the regular season by a set-ratio), took out the basic line-up and sent backups for the remainder of the encounter, which is the fact the guests took advantage of, mostly thanks to Bartłomiej Lipiński (27 points) and Kewin Sasak (5 aces).
